In early 2015 an idea long under consideration came to fruition – the CNB Leadership Institute. Given the growth the Bank has been experiencing and the additional leadership depth that was needed across the entire organization, CNB’s senior leadership team felt that it was the right time to enhance the importance of management succession planning and select the inaugural class from within the organization.
CNB engaged the leadership development team at Baker Tilly Virchow Krause, LLP, to assist with the development of the curriculum. John Park, D.Ed., Maureen Dodson, Ph.D., and Senior Consultant, Jeremy Fegert led the instruction of the six-session program that spanned over the course of 18 months with each session lasting three days. The program was familiar to CNB Bank Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, Brian Wingard, as he participated in a similar program during his employment with Parente Randolph, LLC, now Baker Tilly Virchow Krause, LLC.
The curriculum focuses on topics such as servant leadership, building self-awareness and individual development through the DiSC personal assessment tool, emotional intelligence, leading and working in high performing teams, effective presentation skills, project management, managing change and conflict, and effective feedback and coaching skills.
The program design also places a focus on leveraging senior leadership to support and reinforce key concepts, creates a long term focus on continuous learning and personal development, and uses simulations and collaborative activities to enhance competencies and reinforce CNB values and vision.
Following the strenuous curriculum, twenty employees successfully graduated from the program. Fourteen of those individuals are from the CNB market area and include: Mary Baker, AVP/Market Manager; Erin Brimmeier, Operations Officer; Becky Coleman, AVP/Operations Officer; Andrew Franson, AVP/Wealth & Asset Management Operations; Eric Johnson, VP/Wealth & Asset Management; Cory Johnston, AVP/Controller; Tyler Kirkwood, Commercial Banking Officer; Kylie Ogden, AVP/Compliance; Katie Penoyer, AVP/Treasury Services; Amy Potter, Marketing Officer; Eileen Ryan, VP/Mortgage Lending; John Sette, VP/Information Technology; Jessica Shaffner, Enterprise Support Officer; B.J. Sterndale, AVP/Training. Five graduates are from the ERIEBANK market and include: Carla Higgins, AVP/Commercial Banking; Allison Hodas, AVP/Treasury Services; Katie Jones, AVP/Market Manager; Julie Martin, and Paul Sallie. Rounding out the twenty graduates is Dean Vande Water, VP/Commercial Relationship Manager, from the FCBank market area.
